Postgraduate taught courses

We offer three MSc (Eng) courses in areas relevant to our research interests. All of our MSc courses are designed to prepare you for a career in industry by providing students with practical experience of research, including training in research methods. They are also ideal preparation for further research at PhD level.

Our masters degrees are one year, full-time courses which allow you to further your studies through both taught modules and an individual research project.

Research project worth more than half of your overall credits. This gives you the opportunity to study in depth a challenging and relevant topic. You will also be able to choose from a wide selection of advanced-level taught modules, which will support your project topic.

Environmental & Energy Engineering

The aim of this course is to give you advanced knowledge of the energy and environmental engineering.
The practical engineering issues surrounding environmental impact and the, often neglected, underlying factors governing energy conservation and maximised efficiency (a pre-requisite to reduce emissions) are outlined throughout the course.

Process Safety & Loss Prevention

This course aims to combine the highest academic standards and industrial experience to give a thorough understanding of the ways of reducing the risk to industrial employees and the general public from exposure to chemicals as a result of the planned or accidental release of process material.

Biological & Bioprocess Engineeering

The bioscience industry sector, including bioprocessing and biopharmaceutical industries, faces skills shortages. There is currently a lack of sufficiently and suitably qualified graduates for these industries to prosper. At Sheffield, we aim to change this. We have worked closely with industry to create a new postgraduate MSc course called Biological and Bioprocess Engineering.
