Uzma gained her masters degree in Economics with distinction (gold medal) from Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2003. She then joined Islamia University Bahawalpur as a lecturer in 2005.

She obtained her MPhil degree in Economics from Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2009. She joined the University of Sheffield as a research student in September 2010.
