Sonal's Web Diary
My 5 week rotation in Urology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital has now ended and I am starting my final placement as a medical student of Sheffield University. It is daunting, yet exciting, to think that this last 5 week rotation will be the last formal placement of my medical school education.
For the next remaining 4 weeks I will be placed in Endocrine, Diabetes and Care of the Elderly in Northern General Hospital. These patients have a lot of general medical problems as well so it is good practice to take histories and examine these patients both for self-learning and in preparation for upcoming finals.
Next week is my DOCSS assessment and I have been going to the clinical skills centre both in the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospital with friends to practice the techniques of the eleven skills we will be tested on.
Also in preparation for finals I have started meeting up with my friends to practice together and discuss theoretical knowledge as well. Talking to previous students all the theory which was tested in our 3b exams in January 2011 is all we will need for these exams as well. The written papers for 3b were the most challenging theoretical paper of our course, but of course remembering all the information is another thing!
On a different note this coming Saturday on April 2nd 2011 is the annual International Cultural Evening hosted and performed by the International Students Committee and the national student societies. A variety of song, dance, drama, fashion shows and jokes will be performed throughout the evening as well as award ceremonies for sporting events and other competitions. There is also an after party for the event and those who wish to attend both or just the after party have a selection of tickets available to buy at the Union box office.
