What you need to know before you start the course
- The MSc in Molecular Medicine is an advanced course, taught in English.
- Background knowledge: We assume a good understanding of molecular biology. Many students who come to us have an inadequate knowledge of eukaryotic molecular biology, which can lead to a steep learning curve for them. The MSc in Molecular Medicine is not designed to teach basic molecular biology, because this is covered at undergraduate level by other courses. Please attempt the short quiz. We'll set you a similar quiz when you arrive! If you find this difficult, then please improve your background knowledge before you come. Focus particularly on gene expression in mammalian cells.
- Reading material Please make sure that you are familiar with the concepts in these chapters before you arrive.
- English Language: The more fluent you are in English, the more you will benefit from the course. The course is taught by lecturers entirely in English. Every year a small minority of students has difficulty with the course and are not able to realise their full potential because their understanding of English is not good enough.
We will only make unconditional offers to applicants with an IELTS score (or equivalent) of 6.5 or greater, including a score of at least 6.5 in listening. Students with inadequate English skills almost always find the course very difficult. Please make sure that your understanding of spoken English and your ability to read and write English is as good as possible before you arrive.
