Join in the fun at the Festival of the Mind

Animal MagicThe Festival of the Mind kicks off tomorrow (20 September) at venues across the city. Running from 20 – 30 September, the Festival will be a magical week of performances, talks, exhibitions and activities.

The Festival marks the culmination of months of collaborative work between the University and Sheffield’s creative community. Well over 100 members of staff from the University have been involved in festival events including academics from such diverse disciplines as Nanotechnology, English, Architecture, Psychology and Biomedical Science. They have teamed up with artists, poets, magicians and musicians from Sheffield to create 35 unique, groundbreaking and thought-provoking performances, events and exhibitions designed to stimulate the mind.

The centrepiece for the festival will be a beautiful 1920s cabaret-style Spiegeltent in Barkers Pool. The Spiegeltent is a large travelling tent decorated with mirrors and stained glass, one of the few left in the world following their 19th century heyday. It will play host to a number of festival events.
