Nursing and Midwifery: The Kidneys: Why they're so great
Event details
Description
This session will briefly explore the human kidneys, how to look after them and some basic information on the challenges patients face when their kidneys have failed.
The Kidneys - Why they're so great
Featuring content from our adult nursing degree, at this session you'll get involved in interactive tasks and chat with the nursing programme lead and current students about studying nursing at the University of Sheffield.
By the end of the session, you'll be able to:
- describe the basic anatomy of the urinary system and the kidneys
- state the function of the kidneys and identify the main causes of damage to them
- describe what chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage kidney disease (ESKD) are
- describe at a basic level, the dietary and fluid restrictions that may be necessary to manage kidney disease.
This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13 and mature students.
It was a very positive experience and gave an insight to what the job looks like in the future and how you can use the qualification to specialise in certain areas. Tells you a lot about the facilities available and if it's suitable for you
